Travel Diary: Sagada

Thursday, March 10, 2016

If there's one more thing I'm good at, it'll probably be procrastinating. I swear, I could wake up 3 hours ahead of my work schedule and I'd still find myself running out of time and getting just about late for almost everything. I blame Instagram and Stephen King for that! ;)

Take this blog post, for example, this is about my vacation trip to Sagada back in December yet somehow it took me almost 3 months to get it done and posted. But you know what they say - better late than never, right? (I know, lame excuse- don't even get me started.) LOL!
Anyway, let me just tell you how serene and capturing Sagada is.

 And the twelve-hour-drive starts now..
The mandatory Banaue arrival groupie! ;)

The Models and the Gangster? Lol!

The word "Igorot" is an exonym, derived from the archaic Tagalog term for "mountain people"
The "Eighth Wonder of the World" - The 2000-year-old Banaue rice terraces
Mesmerized by the beauty of nature.

I don't know what this place is called, but a lot of tourists are stopping by to take photos.

We are on the highest of mountains!! :D
Finally!! We arrived!! (Not our cabin tho.)

Who took over the tent. :)

When I think of travel, I would usually prefer beach places. I don't know, I'm in love with the sea. The sound of ocean waves comfort me. But Sagada changed that. This place totally captured me. The quietness and the cold weather, not to mention the tress everywhere, made me feel like I'm in a different country.

Reading Ransom Rigg's Miss Perigrine's Home for Peculiar Children: Library of Souls.

Bonfire on our first night. Of course, marshmallow not forgotten. xD
Waking up to this view, surrounded by mountains covered with a fine layer of mist.

Waiting patiently for the Sunrise at Kiltepan Viewpoint, a spot famed for the best view of sunrise in Sagada.
 MAGNIFICENT!! God's work of art!

Of course, a picture with a pine cone in my palm.
Golden hour! Perfect for selfies. Lol!
 Look at that view!! :D
Paparazzi shot. :p

 Blending in with nature.

I was so excited to finally play at least one song.. Sinking Deep of Hillsong Y&F
 Awww cute Gracie..
 Candid..
 What was I doing? Lol!
 Trekking to Bomod-ok Falls

The view tho..
Bomod-Ok Falls! (Thank God pinilit ako.. Lol! That was an inside joke..)

And that was four days.. #SEPANX

This picture holds a special spot in my heart. This reminds me that even for four days, I wasn't alone. That:

For four days my rice wasn't measured and formed in a cup because they prepared home-cooked-meals for us.

For four days I slept side by side with them in a tiny living room on the same mattress, I never missed my comfortable bed.

For four days I had to wait couple of minutes before I could use the wash room since we only had one and we were 18.

For four days I laughed with them even when their jokes were boring, I didn't have to watch Youtube videos only to laugh.

For four days I didn't put my headset on to listen to my playlists like what I do everyday, but listened to their stories about life.

For four days I didn't wake through the buzz of my phone's alarm, I woke up to the aroma of brewed coffee prepared by Tita Elsa (She's like my second Mom here in Manila).

For four days I had to look after them, kids, and wasn't just after my own good.

For four days I had friends to walk with to explore new places, and not just by myself.

For four days they were checking on me, I didn't feel like an island like I always do in my apartment.

For four days, I didn't have Wi-Fi connection, but my connection not just with them but with my inner self grew deeper.

I could go on with more of "For four days.."

It's not the number of days. It's the feeling. When you are away from your family and living on your own, you can't fight the feeling of being alone. I don't regret my decision of chasing my dreams, I just wish that, when I was younger and living under my parents' roof, I should have not rushed growing up and cherished every moment with them at home.

Xoxo, TNM

  2. What an amazing 4 days! I am like you in that I am normally drawn to the sea, but I can appreciate unique experiences like these that allow us to reflect and grow. Those rice terraces are so stunning!

  4. Procrastinating is typical even for me. Whatever I do I am always late :) The only time where I don't have to be in hurry is while travelling. I suppose I would have lot of time in Sagada. :) Nice place.

  6. The rice terraces look amazing. They remind me a little of Machu Picchu. Did you see the hanging coffins in Sagada?
